Can It Help Your Sex Drive?
Scientists have known for years that male genital tissue contains lots of vitaminD receptors. The function of these receptors remains unknown and studies using vitamin D to improve sexual function (libido, frequency of intercourse or masturbation) haven't turned up much. However, study done in the Scandinavian countries showed that men who were vitaminD deficient had a 50 per cent higher risk of developing prostate cancer.
Will It Grow Hair?
There are lots of vitamin D receptors in hair follicles. "We know that it seems to play a very important role during one phase of hair growth," he says, "but we don't know if it has any negative effect on hair growth in later life if you're vitamin D deficient."
What About Bones?
In men, the level of vitamin D intake in adolescence and the course of vitamin D intake from adolescence into adulthood are positively related with BMD in adulthood. They didn't observe similar results in women, which is not to say there aren't any.
What's The Link To Pain Control?
A Mayo Clinic study also found patients treated for chronic pain usually have low vitamin D levels.
