Vitamin C good for gout prevention

A new study shows a vitamin might help gout, prevent a painful condition often found in people with diabetes and circulation problems.

When researchers looked at more than 4,000 people over a four year time period, comparing people who had more vitamin c to those who had less “c” -- they found those who got at least 1,500 milligrams a day of c had a forty-five percent lower risk of gout. That’s compared to those who only had about 250 milligrams a day.

The good news about this study is that vitamin c intake appeared to lower gout risk even in those with other risk factors [high blood pressure, high alcohol intake, being overweight] for this condition.
